This week our winter sports began practices. Their schedules for practice are: Girls Basketball: Monday and Tuesday 3:30-5:30, Thursday 5:30-7:30 Boys Basketball: Monday 5:30-7:30 Thursday and Friday 3:30-5:30 Cheer: Tuesday 3:30-5:30 Game schedules have not been released yet but will be posted as soon as they are.
The boys soccer game Tuesday is at the A.Y.S.O. fields against the Wichita Defenders. They start their games at 5:00 instead of the usual 4:30. The players should be there by 4:30. If you are driving over please be aware that traffic at that time can be heavy so you may want to allow a little extra to get there. Next Monday will be the start of the K.C.A.A. post-season tournament. C.C.A. will host the tournament which will be held Monday and Tuesday. I will send out start times as soon as they are released.
It was a busy last couple of days as the boys soccer team played Classical and the Sixth Grade volleyball team opened their post season tournament. It was a very exciting soccer game as the boys took on the Classical School of Wichita. The team played very well but dropped the game with a score of 2-1. It was tight throughout the game as the the first half ended in a 0-0 tie. Classical scored two goals midway through the second half but the Eagles responded with a goal and had a number of good shots on goal as the game ended. Up next for the boys will a game with the Wichita Defenders. It will be played on Tuesday at the A.Y.S.O. field The Sixth Grade girls volleyball team began tournament play with a two set victory over St. Catherine. The team played very well and now will move into the winner's bracket. They will next play Resurrection tonight at 5:30. The tournament is being held at Holy Cross. The 7-8 grade volleyball team will begin its tourney play on Saturday. They will take on St. Mary of Derby in a match to start at 9:20 a.m. Their tournament is being played at St. Mary Derby.
Both of the volleyball teams were in action today and both played some of their best matches of the season. The eighth grade team rallied from a near loss in set one to win the last two sets to defeat St. Thomas. They continued their quality play in the second match which the beat St. Mary of Newton. The sixth grade team play the top two teams in the upper division and while they dropped both matches played well. They lost two close sets the S.E.A.S. and took league leading St. Catherine to three sets before falling. Next up for teams will be the league tournament. Boys soccer will play The Classical School on Monday at the South YMCA. The game will begin at 4:00.
The boys soccer team battled tough but came up just short in 1-0 loss to the Wichita Warriors. The Eagle defense shined throughout the game keeping the Warriors from scoring despite many shot attempts. The Eagles had a shots on goal as well but came up short. The team will play their final regular season game on Tuesday October 15 when they take on the Defenders.
The boys soccer team what may have been its best game of the season Monday night against the league leading Classical School of Wichita. The first was a close fought affair Classical only able to hold a 1-0 lead at the break. The second half saw the Saints be more successful but Holy Cross scored on a goal kick. The team will play its final home game this Thursday against the Wichita Warriors. It will start at 4:30 p.m. The Eaglets students from grades 1-4 who have been learning from the team at Tuesday night practices will play a short scrimmage during halftime of the game.
